MUSEUM SCHOOL PROGRAMS

Explore the past, understand the present, and look ahead to our shared future at the new Museum of Utah, opening on the Capitol Complex in June 2026. As the first dedicated state history museum in Utah, the Museum of Utah celebrates our unique history, culture and art through world-class exhibits, programming, and community spaces. Field trip reservations for the 2026-2027 school year will open in early 2026.

BECOMING UTAH

Explores the people who have always been here and their perspectives, Utah’s unique history of statehood, and the push-pull factors that have brought people to Utah over time.

INSPIRING UTAH

Highlights the state’s distinctive achievements, attractions, innovations, and what that makes Utah an amazing place to be.

CONNECTING UTAH

Illustrates Utah’s sense of community, character, and thriving culture, creating a sense of interconnectedness and shared interests among Utahns.

BUILDING UTAH

Honors the work of Utahns in its many forms — from agriculture and mining to homemaking and railroad building.

Temporary Gallery

Summer 2026 to Spring 2027 — “The Past is Personal”: This exhibit urges visitors to consider their role in our nation's history as we mark 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Explore concepts of commemoration and community through the lenses of remembering and perspective, and make connections to both the past, and the people around you. Drawing upon the Utah Historical Society's semiquincentennial project, the Peoples of Utah Revisited, this exhibit broadens the lens on Utah's history and shares the stories of the past through the present.

RESERVATION INFORMATION

Choose a field trip option to access the scheduling calendar. Field trips must be scheduled at least two months in advance.

Field trips are free and offered on a first-come, first-serve reservation basis.

Field trip groups without reservations risk museum admittance. Admittance will be dependent on museum capacity with priority being given to field trip groups with reservations.

When booking a field trip, ensure you have the following information:

School name and district
Name and contact information for the lead teacher
Estimated count of students, teachers, and chaperones attending the field trip.
- Preferred field trip time:
  - 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
  - 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.
- Preferred field trip option:
  - Museum of Utah Only
    - Self-guided Exploration or Guided Exploration experience
  - Partner Field Trip- both Utah State Capitol and Museum of Utah
    - Utah State Capitol- Self-guided or guided experience
    - Museum of Utah- Self-guided or guided experience
- Preferred date(s).

Bus funding may be available for school groups that schedule the Partner Field Trip experience with the Utah State Capitol and the Museum of Utah.

    - Please ensure that your school groups will have adequate time for both experiences, as Capitol Preservation Board bus funding is time limited.

Bus reimbursement is only available for the Partner Field Trip Experience through the Capitol Preservation Board. Schools visiting only the Museum of Utah during their field trip are not eligible to receive bus reimbursement funding at this time.

Meeting location:
- When your group arrives for your Museum of Utah field trip, a museum educator will greet you at the sign located outside the museum entrance. Please wait there for their instructions. Additional information will be provided after booking

- Partner field trips will receive arrival instructions and designated meeting locations after booking.
