HONORARY LIFE MEMBER AWARD
Honorary Life Member Award goes to individuals who have provided a “distinguished service to the State and the Society,” including service and leadership over a long period of time.
CONGRATULATIONS!
Robert E. Parson, who grew up in Cache County, began his service to the state and to the Utah Historical Society in 1989, when he was hired on to a new program co-sponsored by the historical society and Utah State University: the Utah History Fair. Then, in 1991, Bob became USU’s university archivist. At USU’s special collections and archives, he played an instrumental role in furthering the work of many researchers. In the meantime, Bob produced his own impressive scholarship, including as the author or co-author of six books about Utah history and several articles published in Utah Historical Quarterly and elsewhere. As a member of the quarterly’s board of editors for years, Bob never turned down a request to provide peer reviews. His own writing focused on the history of northern Utah communities, Utah State University, and the state’s environmental history. To top it all off, Bob is a blues musician. Bob Parson’s humility, kindness, high standards, and great knowledge of Utah history are a gift to the people of this state.
