As of Friday, August 29, at 5 p.m. MST, the Utah Historical Society’s Engagement Room is closed and reference services are temporarily suspended. Our staff are preparing for the move to the new Museum of Utah and are unable to respond to research requests, photo orders, or requests for appointments at this time. The Engagement Room will reopen at its new location in June of 2026. If you have questions, please call (801) 245-7250. We will continue to provide updates as this work progresses.

ARE STATE ARCHIVES MANAGED BY THE UTAH HISTORICAL SOCIETY?

No. Utah government records are accessible through the Utah State Archives, located at 346 S. Rio Grande Street in Salt Lake City, UT.

To contact State Archives for information requests or for in-person research appointments, email archivesreference@utah.gov.

DONATIONS

ITEM DONATIONS ARE NOT CURRENTLY ACCEPTED

We are grateful for the generosity and support of our community in helping preserve and share our state’s rich history. As of February 1, 2025, the Utah Historical Society will no longer be accepting new donations for our collections as we prepare for the grand opening of the Museum of Utah in 2026. This decision allows us to focus on the care and preservation of materials already in our stewardship and to prepare objects from our collections for exhibitions. Once the Museum of Utah is in operation, we will reopen our process to consider new donations.
