Friends of Cedar Mesa is a conservation-focused 501 (c3) non-profit organization based in Bluff, Utah. Mark Meloy, a former BLM employee, founded FCM in 2010.
Our mission:
To further this mission, we work to create local, regional and national support for greater protection of Cedar Mesa through education, advocating for national designations, supporting smart local policy-making, and organizing research and volunteer service activities.
We also continue to monitor the work and actions of the Bureau of Land Management, US Forest Service, and the Glen Canyon National Recreation area, which are tasked with managing resources in the Greater Cedar Mesa area. With that regard, we offer managers research, guidance and education to see that management maintains wilderness values and protects cultural/archaeological assets, while providing for continued access for local residents and visitors from around the world.
Stewarding southeastern Utah’s National Conservation Lands
Conservation starts with community, and history has shown that places are best protected when there is a group of local citizen advocates to lead the effort. As members of the Friends Grassroots Network, Friends of Cedar Mesa does critical, on-the-ground work to steward and protect the National Conservation Lands. We also use our collective voice as a national network to advance strong conservation management policies and practices. In 2014 the Friends Grassroots Network collectively raised over $2 million to support this work.
