Join an exploration of the complex layers of history at the new Utahraptor State Park. This site contains one of the most productive and diverse dinosaur quarries in North America. The government used the grounds for the Dalton Wells CCC Camp from 1935 to 1941. In December 1942, the War Relocation Authority (WRA) repurposed the camp into the Moab Citizen Isolation Center. Japanese American men who, among other things, spoke out against unjust treatment and violations of civil rights at Manzanar, Gila River, and Tule Lake Concentration Camps were sent to this secret facility 14 miles north of Moab. The WRA incarcerated a total of 54 individuals at this site from January through April 1943.

Dr. Justina Parsons-Bernstein will delve into the site’s multifaceted past and its connections to broader narratives of resilience and remembrance.
