About the Data Collection

The database, funded by the Utah Cemetery Inventory Project, contains names and other recorded information about people who are buried in the Utah cemeteries. Data are collected in three ways:

1. We give small grants to cemeteries to help them convert sexton records into electronic database and geographic information system (GIS) form. (They do not computerize the information on grave markers). The cemeteries then submit the data to the database.

2. Cemeteries that already have their records in digital format can donate their data to the database.

3. Private groups and individuals sometimes offer to survey a cemetery. If you would like to do this, first obtain permission from the cemetery. Then contact us about format requirements and the submission process. We will not accept data unless they are in the proper format.

Refer to our submission guidelines, and contact Doug Misner, 801/533-3535, for more information.
