Financial Assistance

Financial assistance for historic preservation is currently available in the form of State and Federal Income Tax Credits and through loans with favorable terms.

Do you just need a Utah Tax Credit Application?

  • Federal Tax Credit (for income producing buildings) and the state Utah Tax Credit (for residential buildings) are available. You can save 20 percent of the cost of your rehabilitation work through either program.  The National Park Service has a great website on Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentives.

  • For information about loans with favorable terms (primarily for residential buildings) contact the Utah Heritage Foundation at (801) 533-0858.

  • The Salt Lake City Redevelopment Agency (RDA) has several financial assistance programs that may be used for
    historic buildings.

  • Small-dollar grants may be available through your local historic preservation commission as part of the Certified Local Government program.

  • Grants from the Utah Preservation Initiatives Fund are available to nonprofit organizations and government
    agencies.
