This analysis of the value/impact of the service industry in rural Utah was done by the State of Utah's Department of Community and Economic Development in March 1999.

This material provides a chart showing the impact of the service industry in rural Utah. It is important to know that the impact per job increases by the employment of two service workers in rural Utah to $671 per job or the highest impact of any type of activity. This chart demonstrates the power of the service industry, particularly what the power of heritage tourism might be to rural Utah by the development of small sector service jobs employed in heritage tourism experiences, heritage foods, heritage products at the local level. Manufacturing on the other hand may provide an impact per job loss for a rural area.
