Selection of projects is made by the Secretary of the Interior based on the recommendations provided by the National Maritime Heritage Grants Advisory Committee (Advisory Committee). Eligible applicants are state and local governments, including the SHPO, and private nonprofit organizations are eligible to apply for this federal assistance. Maritime Heritage education and preservation projects will be funded.
How to Use This Tool
Application forms will be distributed by the NPS to SHPOs, from whom private nonprofit organizations may obtain them. Applications are submitted to the NPS. The NPS forwards copies to the SHPOs for comment, and then to the National Maritime Heritage Grants Advisory Committee. The Secretary of the Interior makes final decisions regarding distribution of awards.
Limitations
For each annual grants cycle, the minimum funding level shall be set at $2,500 and the maximum funding level shall be determined based on the total amount available for grants. This will be determined by the NPS.
