Biographical Note

Joseph Edward Taylor was born 12 September 1882 in Salt Lake City to
Fanny Mulholland and Edward Theodore Taylor. He graduated from Utah State
Agricultural College in 1905, and rose to prominence within the business
community in Utah. Taylor was one of the founders of the Deseret Farmer and
became its business manager. He was general manager of the Mutual Coal Co.,
executive secretary of the Utah Retail Coal Dealers Association, and developed
the Mt. Olympus Spring Water Co. in Salt Lake City. From 1909 to 1917, Taylor
served as Utah State horticulturist. He received an award from President
Herbert Hoover for his work with the United States Food Administration during
World War I.

Taylor married Leuinna Knudson (1887 - 1981) in 1909. Together they
raised three children.
