Summary Description Utah State Historical Society Mss B 1574 Michael Glenn Utah Energy Office Olympic Records, ca. 1996-2002 3 lin. ft. (1.25 boxes) These files document Olympic-related initiatives for the Utah Office of Energy Services (OES) at the Utah Department of Community and Economic Development. These documents describe venue and site energy upgrades that demonstrated energy efficient technologies during the Games. The OES spent $203,261 for technical assistance and equipment upgrades, emphasizing such assistance for state-owned facilities associated with the Games, including the Olympic Athlete Housing at the University of Utah's Ft. Douglas site. OES funding was derived from Petroleum Violation Escrow funds that Utah received from a federal court oil overcharge settlement. The OES staff also engaged federal U.S. Department of Energy specialists for technical assistance and funding of Olympic-related joint projects. OES staff participated in SLOC-sponsored Environmental Advisory Committee meetings from 1996-1999, as well as regular meetings with SLOC's environmental team until the Games ended in March 2002.
