Myrtle Eliza Dudley was born 6 May 1904 in Jensen, Utah, to Andrew and Sina Jensen Dudley. Myrtle served an LDS mission to the Northwestern states from 1925-1926, which covered Washington, Oregon, Montana, the northern part of Idaho, and the Canadian province of British Columbia. Myrtle attended Utah Agricultural College, and graduated from Brigham Young University in 1936. She taught school in Southern Nevada until her retirement.

Myrtle married Alton Henry Peterson 15 July 1932 in Logan, Utah. The couple had four children: Annette Grant, Berkley C. Peterson, D. Ray Peterson, and Ferrell A. Peterson. Myrtle died in Salt Lake City 9 January 1992, at age 87.
