		<abstract>Penrose was born in Camberwell, London, England, on 4 February
		  1832. He joined the Mormon Church 14 May 1850 and at age 19 was sent on a
		  mission to Maldon, Essex, England. He married Lucetta Stratford on 21 January
		  1855. He emigrated to Utah in 1861. He settled first in Farmington, then Logan,
		  followed by Ogden in 1870 where he began his career as a journalist with the
		  newspaper 
		  <title render="italic">Ogden Junction</title>. He served on the Ogden
		  city council and 1872 Constitutional Convention. In 1877 he moved to Salt Lake
		  City and became the editor of the 
		  <title render="italic">Deseret News</title>. He was ordained an apostle
		  in the Mormon church 7 July 1904 and served as second counselor to President
		  Joseph Fielding Smith and first/second counselor to Heber J. Grant. He died 16
		  May 1925 in Salt Lake City. The collection contains a typescript of the Charles
