He earned a degree at Brigham Young University and taught in Rains, Carbon County, and Heber City, Utah. By 1932 he gave up public education for full-time work in the Utah Department of Fish and Game. Two year later, he started the Fish and Game Magazine, which grew into four color magazines that were distributed in the United States as well as foreign countries. He also contributed to numberous other publications and textbooks. One of his articles on conservation was included in the Congressional Record. He retired in 1962 and died on 4 May 1980.
