		  <abstract>On 20 April 1914 violence erupted in a United Mine Workers
			 tent colony near Ludlow, Colorado because of tension between stricking coal
			 miners, private mine guards, and units of the Colorado National Guard. The
			 battle lasted one day and striking miners fought the poorly paid state
			 militiamen and gunmen hired by the Baldwin-Felts Detective Agency to protect
			 the company during the strike. Twelve children, two women and ten men died as a
			 result of the fighting. Included are photographs of the wrecked mining camp
			 after the massacre.</abstract>
