Heritage Industries

State History is committed to Utah heritage industries.

In addition to libraries, archives, and museums, Utah history is interpreted and made accessible to the public by
for-profit enterprises.

These include:

  • bed-and-breakfast inns, restaurants, craft shops, and other businesses housed in historic buildings
  • commercial tour operators
  • producers of authentic arts, crafts, and historic reproductions
  • industries with a long history in the state, such as mining, smelting, manufacturing, railroading, and skiing
  • and other history-oriented businesses.

These businesses, along with chambers of commerce, state and local tourism organizations, nonprofit museums, and governments constitute a statewide heritage industry.

We encourage communities to organize heritage tourism coordinating groups, and we support their efforts. We work with:

  • the Four Corners Heritage Council
  • the Sanpete Heritage Council
  • the Bear River RD&C
    the Brigham City Heritage Council.
  • the Utah Heritage Products Association, and
  • the Highway 89 Heritage Highway Association.

A Heritage Tourism Toolkit is available for communities, trade associations, and individual businesses.
