Antiquities Section Grants

INSTRUCTIONS

Introduction
These grants are for not-profit volunteer organizations that are primarily focused on Utah's archaeological resources.

Read through the entire application to get an idea about the types of projects that can be funded (Section 2 of application). Examples of the kinds of activities the grants can be used to support include:

  • Program Administration
  • Archaeological Surveys
  • Archaeological Testing/Excavation or Rehabilitation
  • Meetings and Training
  • Organizational Improvement
  • Public Education and Outreach
  • Equipment Purchases

Other activities related to strengthening the organization or investigating and protecting archaeological resources.

Once your organization is clear on the type of project you want to complete, begin the application by completing
SECTION 1. GENERAL APPLICATION.
Please note, you may need to do some preliminary research on costs, consultants, curation, etc. prior to filling out the
grant application.

We strongly recommend that the applications be typed. The format for the applications is available from the Antiquities
Section and a electronic version (see below under Grant rft) of the application. With the electronic version, you will be able
to type directly into the project description boxes and the budget sheets. Don't hesitate to contact us for help at any time during the application process.

Definitions
Grant Request - the amount of money your organization is requesting from the Division of State History, Antiquities Section.
Cash Match - the amount of money your organization is prepared to contribute toward the project.

In-kind - labor, volunteer time, use of equipment etc. that can be counted toward the match.

In SECTION 2 several types of activities are listed. Your organization may wish to conduct any or all of the activity types.
Only complete the sections that apply to your specific planned activities.
At first, we recommend you limit the number
of planned activities to one or two. Please refer to the sample applications in this information packet. There are a wide
range of activities for which your organization can seek funding. Remember, this is a 50/50 match so at least half of your
total budget must come from local cash match or in-kind match.

Speakers, fieldwork projects, posters, newsletters, public outreach and education, office space and equipment are just
some of the things that are eligible. Do not hesitate to contact us at any time with questions or if you need assistance in completing the grant application. We want to help you get your activities funded!!
